Based on an idea of Professor S. Fyodorov, a Russian ophthalmologist, foldable implant lenses were developed to correct high myopia and/or hyperopia, that could be inserted into the eye through a small incision and positioned in the space between the iris and the natural crystalline lens. To avoid a rise of pressure in the eye after surgery two small holes are made in the iris before or during surgery (iridotomies).
