The advantages of DSAEK   are that the DSAEK procedure utilizes a small surgical incision rather than a complete opening of the front part of the eye and requires no corneal sutures. This usually results in more rapid visual rehabilitation for the DSAEK patient and higher chances that the patient will only have to wear a small optical correction afterwards. The technique also reduces the risk of sight threatening complications that may occur with the PKP procedure (such as intra-operative expulsive hemorrhage or post-operative traumatic wound rupture).
